Event Brief

Printed circuit boards (PCBs), serve as the core, the nucleus, of any electronic system. They contain the processing circuits, the communication devices, the memory arrays, and the input/output circuitry.

In recent years, printed circuit boards have become increasingly complex. The use of high-density VLSI (very large-scale integrated circuits) on the one hand, combined with the increased processing speed and data rates, has led to the increased density of the circuits, requiring the placement of more components (and conductors) in much less “real estate” on the PCB.

New technology particularly entails the use of high-speed digital circuits, responding to the need for increased processing rates of data.

The use of high-speed-high-edge-rate digital circuits, along with the need for low power consumption, has contributed to higher electromagnetic emissions from the circuits, on the one hand, and increased sensitivity of the circuits, on the other, leading to EMI concerns. A special problem also associated with the functional performance of high-speed digital circuits is that of “signal and power integrity (SI/PI)”.

For adequate control of electromagnetic interference (EMI), strict international standards and regulations have been developed worldwide. These standards require the suppression of electromagnetic emissions from circuits and systems, and their increased immunity to externally induced interference.

The proper design of printed circuit boards (PCBs) is a cost-effective approach for the control of EMI in high-speed circuits. Also, it is a necessity for ensuring the proper performance of the system.

Who Should Attend

This 4-day comprehensive Course provides the trainees with the necessary tools for identification, analysis, and understanding of the electromagnetic phenomena in printed circuit boards and high-speed digital printed circuit boards.

In addition, the Course is intended to teach the engineering know-how and analytical methods for enabling the engineer to design the product to achieve the necessary EMC compliance.

The Course will emphasize the basic principles and practical applications, with mathematical derivations and calculations kept to the minimum necessary. In addition, case histories and practical “real-life” examples will be provided.
